COVER DESIGN:
The art of judging a book by its cover.
Distilling thousands of words and ideas into one captivating cover is what satisfying cover design is all about. I love taking big ideas and making them tangible visualizations that compel you to pick up the book, read it, hand it off to friends, and most importantly - not be embarrassed to be seen with it in public.
THE WONDERFUL WORKS OF GOD
ART DIRECTION | DESIGN | ILLUSTRATION
Presented with a redesign of a classic previously titled Magnolia Dei the cover design had to express the title in a provocative but classic way. A simple gold-foil sunburst and a reference to The Sower by van Gogh on a textured cream paper came together to make this book the bestseller of 2020 for the Westminster Bookstore and the best selling book to date for the Westminster Seminary Press.
THINGS UNSEEN
ART DIRECTION | DESIGN | ILLUSTRATION
Juxtaposing a minimalistic doorway in a bold and modern color palette on a dark backdrop created a striking visualization expressing both the mystery and reality of the title.
STRUCK DOWN BUT NOT DESTROYED
ART DIRECTION | DESIGN | ILLUSTRATION
Strength through weakness, victory through surrender - the themes of this book prompted an illustrated castle with a human hand waving a white flag at the top. This project resulted in one of my favorite illustrations to date.
THE BOOK OF GIVING
ART DIRECTION | DESIGN | ILLUSTRATION
The author asked that the cover reveal an organic element of generosity. Hand illustrated elements work together to showcase the central theme of this book - that generosity produces abundance.
WESTMINSTER MAGAZINE
ART DIRECTION | DESIGN | TYPESETTING
Westminster Magazine is a source of informative articles, book reviews, and interviews for Westminster Theological Seminary in Glenside, PA. I was privileged to design covers for their first two issues Take Heart and Hold Fast both of which reflect the theme of the magazine through the graphics, textures, and typography chosen.
